Here is a vase to teach the child about the letter V. An enjoyable and pretty craft that will make you smile. It can be used as a gift to make someone happy. It is easy and doable and appropriate for young children.

Skills

Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this sheep applies these skills:

Math

Add in math concepts by having your child count how many flowers are in their vase. Have your child identify the colors of the flower and vase.

Science

Flowers are plants. You can talk about some plants that create flowers which then become a fruit or vegetable. You can also incorporate the life cycle of a seed! Isn’t that great or what?

Talk about the parts of the flowers: petals, stem, leaves, roots…

Fine Motor Skills

Your child will use their hand to hold a writing utensil to trace the letter V template.

Your child will use a scissor to cut out the letter V and flower’s stems along the traced lines.

Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional

Children can use this flower as a way to calm themselves down. They can give this flower vase to others to be kind and thoughtful. Imagine yourself giving someone flowers or someone giving you flowers. How does it feel? Happy? Surprised? Loved?

Boundaries

Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.

Materials

You will need a letter V template, yellow and green construction paper, ruler, fabric flowers, jewels, markers, scissors, and glue.

Steps

Have the child use a pencil to trace the letter V template onto the yellow construction paper.

With adult supervision, have the child carefully use a scissor to cut out the letter V.

With a ruler, guide the child to use a pencil to draw a straight line to create the 3 stems for the flowers.

Have the child use a scissor and cut on the line drawn on the green construction paper. This will definitely improve the child’s hand eye coordination.

Using glue, have he child glue the stem on top of the letter V. Then glue the fabric flowers on top of the stem.

Afterwards, glue the jewels on the center of each flower.

And you can give this flower to the person you want once it is dry!

Modifications

Change the color of the V to your desired color.

Instead of construction paper for the stem, use a pipe cleaner.

Add leaves to the flower or grass to the vase.

Use pre-cut flower papers instead of fabric flowers.
