Here is a Q with a crown to teach your child about the letter Q. You child can use this and pretend to be the queen. You can also read fairy tale stories to your child to explain what is a queen and the role of the queen.
Skills
Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this letter K applies these skills:
Math
Improve the child’s math skills by asking questions regarding the number of jewels used on the crown, and the number of colors they have on the craft.
Science
If you have other crafts with your child, have them classify the horse along with the other crafts. For example, horses fall under animals, where spiders are classified as insects.
Fine Motor Skills
To improve their cutting skills, the child will use a scissor to cut out the letter Q. Using fine motor skills. the child will use a crayon to trace the letter Q, pick up and glue the jewels on the crown.
Cutting out the letter Q can be tricky and frustrating, you may want to cut the inside part of the Q and have the child do the rest.
Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional
The child can pretend to be a queen and live in the castle telling their workers what to do. Ask the child their feelings of being a king or a queen, telling people what to do, and living in a castle. This would be great for children to pretend to be the King and Queen.
Boundaries
Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.
Materials
You will need a letter Q template, purple and yellow construction papers, jewels, markers, and glue.
Steps
First, use the Q template and have the child trace it on a green construction paper.
Next, have the child cut the letter Q with a scissor with adult supervision. This will give the child the opportunity to increase their cutting skills.
Then, give the child jewels to glue on the yellow crown. This will allow the child to use their fine motor skills by picking up the jewel with their fingers and gluing on the crown.
Lastly, have the child glue the decorated crown on the top middle part of the letter Q where a crown would be worn.
Modifications
Use any color construction paper you would like for the letter Q.
Decorate the crown any way you would like it with crayons, paint, shimmery stickers, or foam stickers.
For females, draw your face below the crown to make yourself an official queen. Or even better, cut a photo of yourself and glue under the crown!
Be creative and make the crown any color you like. I like my crown to be yellow.
