Use this piano craft to help your kids learn about the letter P! Your child can pretend to be a pianist! It looks very easy, but it can be very tedious.

Skills

Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this piano applies these skills:

Math

Add in math concepts by having your child count how blacks and white keys are on the piano.

Fine Motor Skills

Your child will use a pencil to trace the letter P template.

They will also use a scissor to cut out the letter P.

Finally, your child will use a marker to trace the lines to form the piano keys.

Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional

Children can use this piano and pretend to play it during circle time songs.

Boundaries

Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.

Materials

You will use black and white construction paper, markers, pencil, scissors, and glue.

Steps

Prior to starting, prep the piano keys, by making a rectangle the size of the letter P. And using a pencil, create dots to dots to resemble the piano keys for the child to trace at a later time.

First, have the child trace the letter P template on the black construction paper using a marker where the line can be visibly seen.

Next, have the child use a scissor and cut out the letter P.

Then, have the child use a marker and trace the lines to create the piano keys. Guide the child to color in the black keys.

Finally, have the child glue the keys onto the left side of the letter P so it look like a Piano!

You are officially done! Yay!

Modifications

You can be creative with the keys and make them different shapes and colors.

You can replace cotton balls with tissue paper, and have the child use their pincer grasp to place and glue the white paper onto the piano body.

Be creative and make the piano any color you like!
