Crafts for Kids: Mother’s Day Wreath

by Nov 19, 2019Crafts, Mother's Day, Special Occasions

Use wreath crafts for kids to create something special for moms to hang on the door or wall during Mother’s Day. Wreaths are excellent decorations that are shown loud and proud! Kids will also get to use their fine motors while showing their mom how much they are loved. Don’t forget to play some Mother’s Day music while making these picture frames!

Skills

Types of skills can include math, fine motor, and social and emotional. Here is how mother’s day wreath applies these skills:

Math

Add in math concepts by having your child count how many shredded papers they used for the wreath.

Fine Motor Skills

Your child will learn how to use their pincer grasp to crumble and glue the shredded papers to make a wreath.

Lastly, your child will use their pincer grasp to hold a marker to trace the saying: “I Love You!”

Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional

Children can use this wreath as a way to express their love for someone special in their life.

Boundaries

Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.

Materials

You will use paper plates, red tissue paper, yarn, markers, scissors, a hole puncher, and glue.

Mother’s Day Wreath Materials

You will also need green yarn and a heart template

Red tissue paper

Scissors and glue

Steps

Firstly, draw a heart in the middle of the paper to create a heart-shaped hole instead of a circle-shaped hole in the middle of the paper plate to create a wreath.

Next, hole punch the top of the wreath and tie a yarn to create a loop that will be used to hang the wreath on the wall.

Then cut out small squares of red tissue paper for the child to use his pincer grasp to crumble and set it aside.

Have the child count as he or she glues the crumbled pieces of tissue paper on the wreath and set aside to dry.

On cardstock paper, in highlight, write the following message: “I Love You!” and have the child use his or her favorite color crayons to trace the message.

Lastly, glue the cardstock paper on the back side of the wreath and let it dry completely.

This amazing 3D effect wreath is ready to be given to someone on Mother’s Day waiting to be hung on the wall.

Modifications

Instead of writing the message, glue a picture of the child in the hole.

You can use any color tissue paper you prefer.

You can use heart foams, stickers, or pom poms, etc. to decorate the wreath.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Wreath crafts will help improve your kids fine motor skills, put a smile on their face once completed, and given to you with loving hands this Mother’s Day.
