Skills
Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this sheep applies these skills:
Science
If you have other crafts with your child, have them classify the monkey along with the other crafts. For example, monkey fall under animals, where worms are classified as insects.
Fine Motor Skills
Your child will use a pencil to trace the letter M template.
Also, your child will use a scissor to cut out the letter M.
Finally, your child will use their pincer grasp to peel and stick the googly eyes or sticker eyes on the monkey.
Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional
Children can use this monkey to sing the following songs: 5 Little Monkey Jumping on the Bed, Five Little Monkey Swinging on a Tree.
Children can pretend to be monkeys!
Boundaries
Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.
Materials
You will use dark brown, light brown, and white construction papers, sticker eyes, scissors, and glue
Steps
Firstly, you would want to prepare all the materials as this task can be a little complicated for the younger children. If you child have the fine motor skills and cutting skills, go ahead and challenge them to do the following: cut out two small circles (that you have prepared) from the light brown construction paper for the ears, cut out one brown circle for the face, and cut one white circle smaller than the face.
Second, have the child use a pencil to trace the letter M template onto the brown construction paper.
Third, have the child use a scissor to cut the letter M carefully.
Then, glue the ears on the brown circle, flip it over, and peel the sticker eyes and stick it on he face. Use the white circle and glue it in the middle of the face. Now, use the marker and make two dots for the nose and a smile for the mouth.
Lastly, you can glue the monkey on the upper left side of the letter M. And there, you have your monkey!
Modifications
You can use googly eyes or sticker eyes instead of having the child draw them.
You can replace cotton balls with tissue paper, and have the child use their pincer grasp to crumble the paper and glue it onto the sheep’s body.
Be creative and make the sheep any color you like!
