Craft this K with the crown of a king to teach your kids about the letter K. Your children can use this and pretend to be the king. You can also read fairy tale stories to your child to explain what a king is and the role of the king.

Skills

Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how the letter K applies these skills:

Math

Improve the child’s math skills by asking questions regarding the number of jewels used on the crown, and the number of colors they have on the craft.

Science

If you have other crafts with your child, have them classify the  horse along with the other crafts. For example,  horses fall under animals, where spiders are classified as insects.

Fine Motor Skills

To improve the cutting skills, the child will use a scissor to cut out the letter K. Using fine motor skills. the child will use a crayon to trace the letter K, pick up and glue the jewels onto the crown.

Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional

The child can pretend to be a king and live in the castle telling their workers what to do. Ask the child their feelings of being a king, telling people what to do, and living in a castle. This would be great for children to pretend to be the King and Queen.

Boundaries

Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.

Materials

You will need a letter K template, green and yellow construction papers, jewels, markers, and glue.

Steps

First, use the K template and have the child trace it on a green construction paper.

Next, have the child cut the letter K with a scissor with adult supervision. This will give the child the opportunity to increase their cutting skills.

Then give the child jewels to glue on the yellow crown. This will allow the child to use their fine motor skills by picking up the jewel with their fingers and gluing on the crown.

Lastly, have the child glue the decorated crown on the top left side of the letter K where a crown would be worn.

Modifications

Use any color construction paper you would like for the letter K.

Decorate the crown any way you would like it with crayons, paint, shimmery stickers, or foam stickers.

For male, draw your face below the crown to officially make yourself the king. Or even better, cut a photo of yourself and glue it under the crown!

Be creative and make the sheep any color you like!
