G is for grape. Try out this quick and easy grape craft to teach kids the letter G. Grapes are usually green or purple, but lets see what color the child wants his grapes to be. As we all know, grapes belongs to the fruit category.

Skills

Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this sheep applies these skills:

Math

Lets see if you can get the child to identify the shape of each individual grapes. And find out how many circles the child use to make his grapes craft. How many colors total did the child use to make the grapes.

Science

Ask the child if grapes is a fruit or vegetable. Label the parts of an grape: stem, leaves, skin, seeds, and flesh. This is a great way to introduce new vocabulary to young students. Imagine your child labeling to you the parts of a grape prior to eating it. Don’t you think that is cool? I sure do!

Fine Motor Skills

Your child will use the pincer grasp to pick up the circles and glue it on the paper. Using hand and eye coordination, the child will be able to turn all the circle into a bunch of grapes.

Your child will use a scissor to improve his cutting skill.

Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional

Your child can pretend to eat the apple and tell you how it tastes; if it is sweet, sour, bitter, delicious, and so on. Just be careful your child does not take a bite of the apple or you’ll be shocked.

Boundaries

Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.

Materials

You will need a letter g template green, purple, and brown construction paper, scissors, pencil and glue.

Steps

First, have the child use a pencil to trace the letter g template on the green construction paper. Once completed, have the child use a scissor to cut out the letter g. You may want to guide the child as it can be difficult to cut circle for the letter g.

Next, using the purple construction paper, cut assorted sizes of circles to represent the grapes. Take into considerations the sizes of the grapes when cutting the circles. If the child is capable of cutting the circles independently, have the child do so. This can be time consuming depending on the child’s cutting skill.

Then, have the child cut out a skinny rectangle from the brown construction paper to resemble to the stem. And don’t forget to have the child cut out one leaf from the green construction paper. You may want to draw the stem and leaf and have the child cut on the line to improve the child hand and eye coordination.

Finally, Have the child glue the purple circle on the letter g, attached the stem and leaf where it belongs. And you are completed!

Modifications

You can make the grapes any color you like.

Also, you can use a capital G instead of a lower case g.

To improve the child’s fine motor ability, use tissue papers and glue it on the letter g.

Yum!
