This is a very simple flower craft that allows kids to learn about the letter F. Children will be curious and surprised to know that flowers can turn into fruits and vegetables which can also be used in science.

Skills

Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this sheep applies these skills:

Math

Children can increase their math skills by counting the flowers they have on the letter F.

Ask the student the total numbers of flowers they used on the letter F.

Science

This is a fantastic way to incorporate how plants grow fruits and/or vegetables. You can show children the different stages of growth in the life of a plant. In doing so, plant a seed and watch it grow over time. Ask the child to predict how long it will take for the seeds to grow.

Fine Motor Skills

Under adult supervision, the child will use a scissor to cut out the letter F.

Children will use their finger grasp for the self adhesive jewels by peeling it and gluing it on the flowers.

Additionally, children will use their pincer grasp to pick up the fabric flowers and glue it on to the letter F.

Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional

The child can use flowers as a way to comfort them during time of need. Talk about flowers and how they would feel if someone gave them flowers. Or how they would feel if they gave someone else flowers. Flowers normally bring the feeling of happiness. I feel happy when someone gives me flowers. It makes me smile.

Boundaries

Please supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items. Make sure your child does not put the jewels in their mouth to prevent choking.

Materials

Have the following materials: letter F template, construction paper, several colorful fabric flowers, self adhesive jewels, glue, and scissor.

Steps

First, Find or search for a letter F template. Once you found one you like, cut it out and trace it onto a construction paper.

Next, with adult supervision, have the child cut out the letter F. For younger ones, you may need to model and/or guide them to cut on the line.

Once completed, have the child glue the fabric flowers on the letter F. Be flexible and let the child glue as many as they need to make their letter F beautiful.

Lastly, have the child peel the self adhesive jewels and put in on the center of each fabric flower to make it even more beautiful and sparkly! Not just that, it will give a 3-D effect!

Modifications

Use foam flowers or paper flowers instead of fabric flowers. (In my opinion, fabric flowers give it more of a 3-D effect.

To increase their fine motor skills, you can have the child draw the flowers on their letter F.

Decorate the letter F with real flowers to make yourself or others happy!

The flower is one of the keys to my happiness!
