Skills
Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this sheep applies these skills:
Math
Ask the child to identify the color and how many color they see in this craft.
You can also ask the child to label the shape and how many different shapes they can find.
Science
If you have other crafts with your child, have them classify the chicken along with the other crafts. For example, chicken fall under animals, where spiders are classified as insects.
You can also talk about the life cycle of the chicken.
Fine Motor Skills
Your child will use a pencil to trace the letter E template, oval, and triangle.
Also, your child will learn how to use scissors to cut the letter E template, egg template, and a triangle for the beak.
Next, your child pick up a feather and glue it on the chick.
Lastly, your child will use Do A Dot markers to fill in the letter e.
Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional
Children can use this as a puppet in the song, “Old Mac Donald Had A Farm” and/or pretend to be chicken searching for food to eat.
Boundaries
Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.
Materials
You will need the following materials: orange and white construction papers, an egg template, letter e template, feather, glue, scissor, Do A Dot Markers, pencil, and markers.
Steps
First, have the child use a pencil to trace the letter e template on a white construction paper.
Next, have the child use a pencil to trace the egg template on a white construction paper.
Then have the child use a pair of scissor and carefully cut out the letter e and the egg. (Remind the child to cut on the line wen cutting out the egg!)
Using the Do A Dot Markers, allow the children to cover the the letter e with it to work on hand strengths. Once completed set aside to dry.
Using glue, let the child glue the egg on the orange construction paper as pictured.
Once the letter e has dried up, let the child use the marker and draw in the eyes, glue the triangle for the beak, and glue he feather for the wing to create a chick!
Lastly, glue the chick on the egg!
Adults can write in the saying: “E is for egg!”
Modifications
You can use googly eyes or sticker eyes instead of having the child draw them.
Also, you can use paint instead of Do A Dots markers
Another modification is to trace the letter E template on a yellow construction paper to make it easier
Lastly, you can replace feathers with tissue paper, and have the child use their pincer grasp to crumble the paper and glue it onto the letter e.
Be creative and make the egg or chicken any color you like!
