Use this cow to help your students learn about the letter C! Cow crafts will fit right into a Farm Animals theme and help make your life one day easier. It can also be used as a puppet when you sing “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” to help them understand the sounds cow make!
Skills
Types of skills can include math, science, fine motor, dramatic play, social and emotional. Here is how this cow applies these skills:
Math
Add in math concepts by having your child guess how many black spots they will use on the cow and then counting how many black spots they actually used.
Science
If you have other crafts with your child, have them classify the cow along with the other crafts. For example, cows fall under animals, where spiders are classified as insects. Cow lives on land, where most fish live in the ocean.
Fine Motor Skills
Your child will learn how to use scissors to cut the cow’s eyes and black spots.
Your child will use their pincer grasp to crumble tissue paper to glue onto the cow. If you use googly eyes or sticker eyes, this will also allow them to improve their pincer grasp skills.
Dramatic Play and Social/Emotional
Children can use this cow as part of their farm and pretend to be cows and mooing all day long.
Boundaries
Make sure you supervise your child when using scissors and other sharp items.
Materials
You will use a round paper plate, black and pink construction paper, markers, big eye stickers, scissors, and glue.
Steps
Firstly, gather all of your supplies and set aside.
Next, draw several cow-like spots on the black construction paper using a marker and cut them out . Make sure you place all the spots in a cup so you can easily have them at hand. Afterwards, draw an oval on the pink construction paper for the nose. You also need to draw and cut out two skinny oval for the ears.
Depending on the child’s cutting skills, have the child draw and/or cut out the spots, nose, and ears.
Afterwards, give the child the paper plate. On the plate that semi-pops out, have the child use the marker to draw the eyes .
Then have the child glue the nose guiding them if necessary. Have the child glue the spots around the head not covering the eyes and nose.
Finally, have the child glue the ears on the top of the paper plate where it belongs. Don’t forget to have the child make two dots for the nostrils on the cow’s nose to smell.
Modifications
You can use googly eyes or sticker eyes instead of having the child draw them.
You can replace black construction paper with tissue paper, and have the child use their pincer grasp to crumble the paper and glue it onto the cow’s face.
Make this YOUR cow and use any color you like for the spots! Just keep the smell to yourself!
Make your cow any way you want!
Moo!
This cow craft will surely get your kids mooing about the room! Make sure to explain where most of our milk comes from and moo along with your kids!
